ATTENTION ALL PRESS MAC USERS - Office Upgrade Instructions

All Press MAC users - please carefully read through this email and attachment. 

 

Press PC Users - An email with instructions for the PC version of this process was sent out late last week.

 

As recently mentioned in the "Technology changes coming soon" email, we are in the process of upgrading Press software in order to facilitate the upcoming Email Migration and Firewall projects.

 

The attached document will walk you through the process of upgrading the Microsoft Office programs on your Press Mac, which must be completed by October 1st. If you use Citrix / VNC to access a mac located at the Press, please perform these instructions inside the Mac vnc session. If you have a Press provided laptop and do not use VNC, please perform the instructions on the laptop.

 

Please read and follow the instructions closely, and if you encounter any issues - make detailed notes of where you got stuck and what happened. Submit a ticket with this information to JHUP_IT_SUPPORT@jh.edu  . In the subject line of the ticket/email, please include "Mac Office Upgrade Issue" so we can easily track these tickets.

 

A follow up email with a polling option will be sent out at a later date so everyone can report their successful installs.

Upgrading Office on Mac

If you have Office 2016 (Blue Outlook Icon:  ) You do not need to upgrade Office at this time.

If you have Office 2011 (Yellow Outlook Icon:  ), please carefully follow the instructions below. If you are at all uncertain as to which version you have, please follow the instructions below to install Office 365 to be certain you are prepared for the mail migration.

 

 

This document covers the process for upgrading the Office Suite on Mac, as required for the upcoming mail migration project. If at any point you encounter issues with this process, please submit a ticket by emailing JHUP_IT_SUPPORT@jh.edu with as much detail as possible, especially which step you got

stuck on and what happened.

 

 

  1. Open a web browser (I suggest Chrome) and go to office.com , click on sign-in in the top-right corner, and sign in with your JHEDID@jh.edu (EX: SBRANDO7@jh.edu ) and JHED password.

  1. Click on the Install Office button in the top-right of the page.

 

 

 

  1. If prompted, allow downloads from office.com. The “Microsoft_Office_16…” file will begin downloading. Once complete, run the downloaded file from your Downloads folder.
  2. Upon running the Office Installer, please select the following options to complete the install:
    1. On the Welcome to the Microsoft Office Installer screen, click on Continue.
    2. On the Software License Agreement screen, click on Continue, and then Agree.
    3. On the Standard Install on Macintosh HD screen, click on Install.
    4. If prompted for your login credentials, please use your standard mac login, and click on Install Software.
    5. Please wait for the installation to complete. On the Installations was successful page, click on Close. You may move the installer to Trash when prompted. You may close any open browser windows pertaining to Office.
 

 

  1. Open your applications folder and find the new version of Outlook. Click to launch the blue Outlook App. If prompted to “Sign in to activate Office”, select/enter you JHEDID@jh.edu account as you did in Step 1, and click Continue. Login with JHED information as requested in the following windows, clicking Next as needed.

 

 

  1. You have now completed the Office Upgrade. Be sure to pin the new applications to your taskbar if desired for easy access.
